"Svetilen" ensemble - the young voice of ancient Russia
Svetilen, the spiritual-folk band, founded in 1989, sees its purpose in restoration of Old Russian song traditions. These traditions cold be divided into liturgical and common singing, but what brings together is a special sincere performance and an attempt to find the meaning of God's word, which signals of the one starting point, united musical and cultural space. Svetilen tries to capture and study these traditions from the contemporary viewpoint.

The first major success came to the ensemble in 1997 at the international competition "Musica Mundi" in Hungary. By this time there were six members (after experimenting with trio and

chamber choir). "Svetilen" became a gold medalist and one of the most famous bands in Europe, performing Russian sacred music.

In 2000, the last performance of Svetilen as a contestant took place at the first choral Olympiad in Linz (Austria). Winning silver, the band has been actively touring.

From 2000 to 2015 performances were held in the USA, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Serbia and Montenegro, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, Slovenia.

Since 2006, "Svetilen" represents the Ivanovo state Philharmonic, participates in charity concerts and is still actively working to expand the repertoire.

The songs are performed a Capella, sometimes with added unique flavor of ancient instruments like gusli, hurdy-gurdy, duduk and doumbek.
Ethno-fusion direction
Since 2017, the ensemble has demonstrated to the audience the ability of the genre of folk spiritual music to change and be in tune with today's musical traditions in all their diversity.

The band began to use double bass, harmonica, whistle, accordion, acoustic guitars, which allowed to create compositions in the genres of folk-modern, folk-rock, folk-jazz, Celtic ballads, flamenco, without changing the spiritual principle.
